What Leadership Looks Like
Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant” (Matthew 20:26). At Gateway, leadership begins with serving first, with humility and a servant’s heart. It means setting an example that points people to Jesus and helping others grow in their walk with God.

Faithful To Serve
Every leader begins here. Serving faithfully builds character, humility, and trust.
Formed To Lead
Leaders are shaped through our Formed to Lead course, which explores biblical leadership, character, and calling.
Field Experience
After the course, there is a three-month trial period where you begin leading in practice with guidance and support.
Fully Released
After prayer and discernment, leaders are confirmed and released to serve in leadership roles at Gateway.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the time commitment?
The Formed to Lead course runs for 8 weeks, followed by a three-month trial period. You will be supported and guided throughout.
How do I know if I am ready?
As you serve and follow God, He will make His call clear through the Bible and through others. It is also a step of faith, and you will often feel a burden or passion for an area of ministry.
What support will I receive?
You will be mentored by experienced leaders, encouraged in prayer, and given feedback throughout the journey. We walk with you as you grow.
What does “released” mean?
It means Gateway recognises your readiness, prays with you, and formally entrusts you with leadership responsibilities in the church.
Can I step back if it’s not the right fit?
Yes. Our Formed To Lead Course and the trial period is designed to help you and the church discern if leadership is where God is calling you. If it is not the right fit, we will help you continue to serve and grow in other ways.
The Journey Of Discipleship
This is the heart of discipleship: following Jesus, getting baptised, belonging here, and serving others. As you grow in these steps, God may also call you to begin leading, so that you can help others walk the same journey.
