Later life can sometimes feel lonely, particularly when health changes or it becomes more difficult to get out and see people. Gateway Chaplaincy exists to come alongside older people with friendship, kindness, prayer and spiritual support.

Our chaplaincy team visits a local care home each week, spending time with residents, listening to their stories and building genuine friendships. The team also supports older and housebound members of our church family through visits, conversation, prayer and encouragement.
Sometimes that means sharing a conversation or just sitting with someone. At other times, it may mean praying together, reading from the Bible or offering support through a difficult season. Through it all, our heart is to share the love and hope of Jesus and make sure people know that they are valued, cared for and not forgotten.
If you are interested in joining the chaplaincy team and have a heart for older people, we would love to hear from you.
You do not need to have all the answers or previous experience. What matters most is a willingness to listen, care, pray and give your time. Anyone joining the team will complete Anna Friends training arranged by our Anna Chaplain, Gareth, alongside Gateway’s safeguarding training and the appropriate DBS check before serving.

If you are older, housebound or going through a difficult season and would value a visit, conversation or prayer, our chaplaincy team would be glad to support you.
You can also get in touch if you are concerned about an older member of our church family who may appreciate some company and encouragement.
