If you’ve decided to follow Jesus, baptism is your next step of obedience and celebration. Here’s everything you need to know.
“For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.” (Colossians 2:12 NLT)
Not sure what baptism is all about? You’re not alone. Here are clear, Bible-based answers to the most common questions, so you can understand what baptism means and why it’s important.
Baptism is a public, outward expression of an inward transformation. It symbolises your identification with:
• The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus
• A new life in Christ
• Your commitment to follow Him
Jesus commanded it (Matthew 28:19). The early church practised it. And if you love Jesus, it’s a step you’ll want to take. Baptism is not what saves you, but it shows the world that Jesus has saved you.
Anyone who has made a personal decision to follow Jesus. In the Bible, those who were baptised had heard and responded to the gospel—so we baptise believers, not infants. Children are encouraged to be dedicated, and older children may be baptised if they understand and believe.
We baptise in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, just as Jesus instructed.
No—but it’s a vital act of obedience. Salvation comes through faith in Jesus (Ephesians 2:8–9). Baptism is how we go public with that decision.
Baptisms take place during our Sunday in-person gatherings, so your church family and loved ones can celebrate with you.
Beforehand, you’ll attend a short Baptism Class to help you understand what baptism means and to get ready for the day. You’ll also be encouraged to write a short testimony about how Jesus has changed your life.
On the day, you will be prayed for, baptised, and celebrated as you take this powerful step of faith.
For your baptism, please bring dark shorts and a t-shirt to wear during the service for modesty. Don’t forget a change of clothes and a towel for afterwards, as well as a bag to carry your wet clothes home.
Your story is powerful. It is a personal way to show what Jesus has done in your life and it can inspire others to take a step toward Him. When you write your testimony, keep it simple and heartfelt. Focus on three parts:
Share what your life was like before you gave your heart to Jesus. What were you searching for? Did you feel empty, lost, anxious, or without purpose?
Describe how you came to know Him. What opened your eyes to His love? When did you realise you needed Him? Briefly explain how you made the decision to follow Him.
Talk about the difference Jesus has made in your life. How has He changed your heart, your outlook, or your purpose? Use everyday language, because your story is a testimony of His grace.
If you’ve made the decision to follow Jesus and want to be baptised, we’d love to walk with you through this next step in your journey.
Baptism is not the end of the journey. It is the beginning of life in God’s family. Every disciple is called to take further steps, and the next step is to belong to His family.
When you’re ready, explore belonging as your next step.
