Join us from 5th–11th January as we begin the year by seeking God together with one prayer: Lord, we want Your presence.
This week is a time to slow down, put Jesus at the centre, and make space for Him to speak. Whether you are fasting food, social media, or something else, use this moment to draw closer to God and ask Him to prepare your heart for the year ahead.
Let’s start 2026 with expectancy, ready to hear His voice and welcome His presence in our lives and in our church.
Lord, we want Your presence.
Join us each day as we dive deeper into specific areas of focus, helping us align with what God is doing during this powerful week.
Exodus 33:14
“My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
That we would recognise God’s nearness and become aware of His presence again.
Exodus 33:15
“If your presence doesn’t go with us, don’t send us up from here.”
That we would not move into this year in our own strength, but rely fully on Him.
James 4:8
“Come close to God, and God will come close to you.”
That we would slow down, listen, and live each day aware of God with us.
Psalm 51:10–12
“Create in me a clean heart, O God… Restore to me the joy of your salvation.”
That God would remove distractions and anything that dulls our hearts.
2 Corinthians 3:17–18
“Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom… And the Lord makes us more and more like Him.”
That the presence of God would bring healing, clarity, and change in our lives and church.
Psalm 63:1–2
“O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you… I have seen you in your sanctuary.”
That God would awaken fresh desire and deep longing for His presence.
Acts 4:13
“They recognised them as men who had been with Jesus.”
That our whole church family would be known as a people who have been with Jesus.
Fasting is more than just abstaining from food or certain activities; it’s a deliberate act of focusing on God. Throughout Scripture, fasting is portrayed as a powerful way to humble ourselves before the Lord, clear away distractions, and create space for His presence in our lives. When we fast, we’re setting aside physical needs to prioritise our spiritual relationship with God. It’s an intentional way of saying, “God, You’re more important to me than anything else.”
Fasting is not about trying to earn God’s favor or twist His arm to get what we want. Instead, it’s about positioning ourselves to receive what God already desires to give us. By fasting, we recalibrate our hearts, removing the noise and clutter of daily life, and focusing our attention on God. This spiritual discipline opens the door for God to move more freely in our lives, revealing His will and deepening our connection with Him.
We fast because we recognise our need for God above all else. Fasting is a spiritual reset, a time when we step away from the distractions of the world and seek God with all our hearts. It’s a way of expressing our dependence on Him and our desire to draw closer. In fasting, we follow the example of Jesus, who fasted for 40 days in the wilderness before launching His ministry. Throughout history, believers have fasted as a way of seeking God’s guidance, strength, and presence.
When we fast, we’re not just giving something up; we’re opening ourselves up to gain something far greater: deeper intimacy with God, greater sensitivity to His Spirit, and a renewed sense of purpose. Fasting is a powerful way to say, “God, I want more of You,” and to trust that He will meet us in that desire.
Fasting can take different forms, depending on what God is leading you to do. Traditionally, fasting involves abstaining from food for a specific period of time. Some might choose to fast from certain types of food, like Daniel did when he ate only vegetables and water. Others might choose to fast from meals altogether for a day or more.
But fasting isn’t limited to food. You can also fast from other things that might be distractions in your life, such as social media, television, or other activities. The key is to replace those things with time spent in prayer, reading Scripture, and seeking God’s presence.
As you fast, it’s important to stay focused on why you’re doing it. Use the time you would normally spend on those activities to draw closer to God. Pray more intentionally, listen for His voice, and reflect on His Word. Remember, fasting is not just about what you’re giving up, but about what you’re gaining, a deeper connection with God.
In this season of fasting, let’s approach it with expectation, believing that God will do incredible things in our lives, our church, and our community as we seek Him together.
