Join us from 5th-11th January for Seek First, a week of prayer and fasting inspired by Matthew 6:33. This week is all about putting God at the centre of our lives and seeking His will for the year ahead. Whether you’re fasting food, social media, or something else, take this opportunity to draw closer to Jesus and pray for our church and community. Let’s begin the year with expectant hearts, ready to hear from Him and see Him move in powerful ways. Let’s seek Him first in 2025!
Join us each day as we dive deeper into specific areas of focus, helping us align with what God is doing during this powerful week.
Pray for a fresh work of God in your heart. Ask Him to cleanse, renew, and restore your spirit, just as David prayed in Psalm 51:10-12. Let’s seek His presence to fill us with joy and a steadfast heart as we start this week of prayer and fasting.
Pray for unity, growth, and love within the church. Based on Ephesians 4:15-16, ask God to strengthen every member, helping us work together to build up the body of Christ in love. Let’s seek His guidance to grow into maturity as His people.
Pray for God’s blessing and guidance over families and relationships. Inspired by Joshua 24:15, commit your home and loved ones to serve the Lord. Ask God to bring unity, healing, and His presence into every relationship. Let’s believe for strong, Christ-centered homes and relationships.
Pray for revival in our hearts, church, and community. Based on 2 Chronicles 7:14, humble yourself before God, seek His face, and ask Him to forgive and heal our land. Let’s cry out for a fresh move of His Spirit that transforms lives and draws people to Jesus.
Pray for those who don’t yet know Jesus. Inspired by Luke 19:10, ask God to seek and save the lost, drawing them into His kingdom. Let’s pray for hearts to be softened, lives to be transformed, and opportunities to share the good news of Jesus.
Pray for children, youth, and young adults to grow into a Spirit-filled generation. Based on 1 Timothy 4:12, ask God to raise up young people who set an example in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity. Let’s believe for a future generation empowered by the Holy Spirit and grounded in Christ.
Pray for God’s vision and mission to guide and inspire us. Based on Habakkuk 2:2-3, ask God to make His plans clear and help us to faithfully walk in His purpose. Let’s believe for His perfect timing and provision as we move forward together.
Fasting is more than just abstaining from food or certain activities; it’s a deliberate act of focusing on God. Throughout Scripture, fasting is portrayed as a powerful way to humble ourselves before the Lord, clear away distractions, and create space for His presence in our lives. When we fast, we’re setting aside physical needs to prioritise our spiritual relationship with God. It’s an intentional way of saying, “God, You’re more important to me than anything else.”
Fasting is not about trying to earn God’s favor or twist His arm to get what we want. Instead, it’s about positioning ourselves to receive what God already desires to give us. By fasting, we recalibrate our hearts, removing the noise and clutter of daily life, and focusing our attention on God. This spiritual discipline opens the door for God to move more freely in our lives, revealing His will and deepening our connection with Him.
We fast because we recognise our need for God above all else. Fasting is a spiritual reset, a time when we step away from the distractions of the world and seek God with all our hearts. It’s a way of expressing our dependence on Him and our desire to draw closer. In fasting, we follow the example of Jesus, who fasted for 40 days in the wilderness before launching His ministry. Throughout history, believers have fasted as a way of seeking God’s guidance, strength, and presence.
When we fast, we’re not just giving something up; we’re opening ourselves up to gain something far greater—deeper intimacy with God, greater sensitivity to His Spirit, and a renewed sense of purpose. Fasting is a powerful way to say, “God, I want more of You,” and to trust that He will meet us in that desire.
Fasting can take different forms, depending on what God is leading you to do. Traditionally, fasting involves abstaining from food for a specific period of time. Some might choose to fast from certain types of food, like Daniel did when he ate only vegetables and water. Others might choose to fast from meals altogether for a day or more.
But fasting isn’t limited to food. You can also fast from other things that might be distractions in your life, such as social media, television, or other activities. The key is to replace those things with time spent in prayer, reading Scripture, and seeking God’s presence.
As you fast, it’s important to stay focused on why you’re doing it. Use the time you would normally spend on those activities to draw closer to God. Pray more intentionally, listen for His voice, and reflect on His Word. Remember, fasting is not just about what you’re giving up, but about what you’re gaining—a deeper connection with God.
In this season of fasting, let’s approach it with expectation, believing that God will do incredible things in our lives, our church, and our community as we seek Him together.
