Discipleship is not just about what we believe, it is about how we live. Jesus showed us what true greatness looks like when He washed His disciples’ feet and said that He came not to be served but to serve. As we follow Him, we are called to do the same.
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:45
Why We Serve
Serving is not about filling a rota or ticking a box. It is about becoming more like Jesus as we love, give, and use what God has placed in our hands. When we serve, we grow in humility, strengthen the church, and bless our community.
Team Expectations
Serving on a team is both a joy and a responsibility. It is more than helping out, it is about building God’s house together and leading by example. We ask everyone who serves to walk closely with Jesus and to be committed to the life of the church. Here are some of the expectations we hold for our team members:
Given Your Life to Jesus
You’ve personally responded to the Gospel and are following Him.
Baptised in Water
Or signed up to be baptised soon.
A Partner of Gateway
Or in the process of becoming one.
Filled with the Holy Spirit
Or actively seeking to be.
Committed to Church Life
Regularly attending Sundays and midweek gatherings where possible.

Receive Role Description
Once you’ve signed up, we’ll send you a short description of the team you’ve registered interest in, including the responsibilities and expectations, so you can see what’s involved.
Meet With The Ministry Leader
You’ll have a friendly chat with the ministry leader to discuss the role, ask any questions, and see together if it’s a good fit.
Training & DBS Check
Before you start, some teams may require a simple DBS check. We’ll also provide basic training so you feel confident and equipped.
Start Serving
Once everything is in place, you’re ready to join the team and make a difference!
Ongoing Support & Training
We’re here to help you grow. After your first month, your ministry leader will check in for a quick review to see how things are going. You’ll also receive regular support, encouragement, and opportunities to be equipped further as you serve.
